The Wyandotte Thread

Since they are from a feed store, I figured we would have one or two roosters in there =/ (even though they are all supposed to be pullets)
Thanks for your input!

Here are some better pictures related to the combs I was talking about.

We have 6 Wyandottes. All have the fat comb except for one.
Here are some with the regular combs. They are all supposed to be pullets.

And here is the one with the single comb that is different. So weird.
That first one is definitely a cockerel and the second one might be. It's hard to tell from the picture. You can see the pointy saddle feathers on the first one already.

The good news is that it looks like the last two are pullets to me. The last one with the single comb shouldn't be used for breeding, though, since single combs are a fault.

BackyardCoop - My wyandotte's comb looks like the one in your second picture....maybe even brighter red (but not quite as big as the first picture). Mine were also sexed as girls by mypetchicken. I am keeping my fingers crossed that you and I both just have girls whose combs turned red early! Haha

Good luck!

Combs

Bellow is only a few examples of faults in combs. Other common
faults include an inverted comb (where the leader appears to be
missing and there is a dimple in its place), hollow areas; split
(pronged) leaders and more. To most Wyandotte breeders the
comb is one of the most important features on a bird but in
scoring a Wyandotte, the comb only accounts for 5 out of 100
possible points.

I agree, first 2 are roosters. Second 2 look like girls.

Me too! Let me know how it turns out!

Thanks everyone for the info. We aren't indending to breed any right now but I will keep this one in mine to stay out of it if we do.

And I'll check out that picture and link a bit more this evening!

I have 4 silver Wyandottes and 4 Australorps. I have some with pinkish (not red) looking combs..They are 5 weeks too...Since I'm new to this I'm not sure what I have, boys or girls.I've been lurking and lurking on here to see if I can find out what I actually have....Can't have roos so I'm hoping their all girls....Hummmmm, with my luck all of them will be roos!
.I have to say tho, my Wyandottes are much friendlier than the Australorps are...
