Cute Partridge Bantams.... Not sure the ages, just wanted to say Hi...

I have a question myself... I have lots of Splash Wyandottes... I also have 1 Silver laced and 1 Gold laced Hens... Only Splash Roosters. What would the Slash Rooster and the Silver laced Hen Chicks be called? Also, the Splash Rooster and the Gold Laced Hens Chicks ?

We're going to add three to our tiny flock of Columbian Wyandottes. We visited the farm today to check out the new chicks; we'll probably pick them out on Saturday. However, we want to be sure to get one male and two females, it's a bit hard to tell at this stage (any other count will throw our tiny flock out of balance). Any hints at what to look for when sexing them at this age will be appreciated.

The combs on the cockerels are red and wide and the combs on the pullets are thin and flesh colored. The cockerels will have a tail that looks fuzzy and uneven and the pullets more square. That is a rooster in the first picture and a see a couple of pullets in the center of picture # 2. Good luck!

Here is an example of what to look for as far as the combs. These are two of my LF BLRW chicks.

Cockerel on left (wide red comb) Pullet on right (thin flesh colored comb)

Thanks! That is very helpful.

Please post pictures of the ones you do get. Good luck choosing the genders you need!

I certainly will. We've just finished an addition to our run, so they'll have a beautiful home where they can see our existing birds but stay separate for a few weeks. Then we'll open it up and give everybody the run of the area. Lots of pix- look at the "Fowlies Bregere" link in my sig, you'll also see our two current Columbian Wyandottes there.

I have a quick question about my SLW chick.
I feel like she is developing slower than my other chicks(Ameraucana, Australorp). she is 1/2-2/3 their size. Do Wyandottes develop slower than other breeds or is it just my chick???
Thanks,
Zoë

Ok well I have question..... I bought two Wyandottes about a month ago. One blue and one SLW

Well they man said they were all pullets. They were about 2 months old then, they are now around 3, 3 1/2 months old. Well the blue is a pullet but the SLW is worrying me, "she" acts like a hen but she has very long legs and today I even noticed a green sheen to her feathers. Like alot of her feathers.

She hasnt regrown her tail yet but it seem to be a little blackish green also. Her comb is pink and isnt very big.

Is this normal for a Wyandotte?

Roos will look very different in the SLW, pullets are laced all over, the roos are not. they have pretty solid white wings. Look around that page and you will see the SLW roos and pullets.

My SLW (hatchery bird) also had me worried for a while as a chick until they were 4 or 5 months old. She didn't act differently than the others, but her comb was decidedly more pink (it was also a single comb). The green sheen doesn't mean boy, hens with black feathers can have an impressive amount of "beetle green" as it's called too. If you post pictures, people here can take an educated guess as to whether or not you have a boy.
