The Wyandotte Thread

Came home from work to disaster! Our incubator died-ice cold eggs in the bator. Of course, today we expected the rest of the peeps to hatch. 26 eggs wasted...I feel sick!!! Don't know if the ones that were in there will be ok or not. It's still 70 degrees in the house, but on a wet chick with a fan running-they were pretty cold.

Any ideas on a good cabinet bator? I think a Sportsman is in my future!
That sucks. Did you candle them? Any with veins still?

Noooooo what kinda bator it it? Can you put any kinda heatint somthing in it to keep them warm? I use a dehydrator base with the heating element. Oh i fell so bad for you can you do anything? Know anybody with an incubator you could borrow?

I opened the 5 that were PIP'd. They were alive, so I put them in the brooder box in a separated bin. They've been in there about 30 minutes and are chirping/moving. 2 have died.

you'd be surprised how tough ready-to-hatch eggs can be... i had a hen get off the nest to eat, sit back on the wrong one, 2 days prior to hatch. those eggs were stone cold, but i stuck them back under her, and all hatched the next day. don't give up on them yet. they just need some more heat

Quote: Can you do anything to make a make shift incubator of some sort? The brooder box might work, I know you might not have a way to control the temp but as long as they don't get too HOT they might be OK till you can work something out. They really are hardy little buggers.

Do any of you pictures of week old Wyandotte chicks you can share? I want to get some and my local feed store has Wyandotte pullets, but they are mixed together. I'm not looking for show birds just pretty colors to enjoy.
