The Wyandotte Thread

Well I was beginning to wonder if I had the most unfriendly wyndottes ever. My SL I got at point of lay. She will walk around near, but doesn't want to be touched. wont eat out of my hand like the other chickens. I bought two GL chicks and they seemed to be acting the same. The are 3months old now and I have started introducing them and some other chicks the same age into the flock. I was walking by doing chores and one of them flew up about waist high and was up against me just flapping her wings. I thought is this thing trying to flog me. I put my hand down and scooped her up and she pro ceded to move to my shoulder. She has decided to be a pet. I sat down to hold her a minuet and the other GL and a mixed roo that's about the same age all came over and climbed up. I thought to my self Central Park has the Pigeon lady , I'm now the chicken lady. lol I know that its not that unusual, but this was a first for me.

Well then, there is hope. Ours sound like yours but ours still do not like to be touched...

I routinely handle my birds daily for health reasons. It is to check weight mostly. I have many birds and if I do not do a few birds daily a bird gaining weight can get by with out noticing. Worse would be if a bird was loosing weight with out noticing. I refuse to do that to my birds. This time of year is not bad. Greens are up and the feed is reduced. I still do it out of habit. I still have a few who scoot when I approach, however I am fortunate I do not have any that run away. They know the routine and know it is coming. All my birds approach when I am by the coop or call.

Mine dont run away some are just more shy than others. They will follow me around. If I'm out side working I have 3 cats, a dog, 14 chickens, 2 goats, and a turkey following me. Some of the hens are more shy. My Brown Leghorns especially. I got them as adult birds so they didn't get handled as much as Chicks I guess. I get swarmed when I go into the grow out coops. Because they have all been treated like babies. Thats why I can't eat them.

Hope everyone is having a great Friday!!!
Before I go through the time of taking pictures and posting them...
Would there be any benefit of taking pictures of my 12 day old BLR, black laced red and GL chicks for evaluation! This is the mixed batch.

This is my wyandottes wing. Does she have split wing or is it just a gap?

Can anyone correctly identify this cocks color? I'm to the point of confusion with these colors!!! Just when I think I have it all figured out I read or see something that causes me to question...
