The Wyandotte Thread

Quote: don't apologize for posting such beautiful pictures. I wish you were in the US, i'd love to get hold of some more birds like these. 8)

as far as your breeding, IMO you're doing a great job. they look way better than many of the blrw i'm seeing here in the US. sorry if my post came across wrong.
pictures are always welcome, but personally, I think if pics are posted, expect them to be critiqued somewhat. that's how we all learn and get to know what the breed is SUPPOSED to look like, and learn what faults to avoid. that's what this thread is all about as far as i'm concerned.

i'm constantly striving to improve what I've got and breed, but sometimes can't get the best stock to start with. so it's all a matter of recognizing faults and putting birds together that may help improve each other's flaws, rather than perpetuate and increase those faults.

for example, my roo's back is a bit long, but the hen's is nice and short. I don't care for her tail, but his is nice (ok, he's moulting and doesn't have much tail at the moment). so hopefully junior there is going to have his momma's shorter back and daddy's tail.
jmarie has a full brother to this boy as well, who didn't get the slow feathering gene, so looks further along than this one does.

below are pics of father, son (aka Mini-Me because of this pic) and mother at the bottom...

another pic of Mini-Me from a week prior to the one above...

and I couldn't find the pic of just 'momma' but she's the girl on the left.

and if you're wondering how I know which hen the momma is, the boy is black laced, so the girl on the left is the only option. she'll produce blue and black, while the splash girl will give me blue and splash chicks. so jmarie's chick could be from either hen, since he's blue.

Haha, I wish I was in the US too. It would be some much easier to get hold of wyandottes that haven't been so severely inter-bred. I was looking into buying hatching eggs from the States but I am unsure to whether anybody would be able to post hatching eggs to England and if the longer journey would make for a bad hatch :/

I don't know what the laws are for importing birds to the uk... I know bringing them into the us is a royal pain in the rear.

tho I have heard of people bringing eggs overseas in their handbags as 'boiled eggs for a snack'. LOL but I don't know anyone traveling or what kinds of security they go thru... that last ones I heard of was going to some place in Africa, and another to Indonesia.

I have heard of a couple of people who have bought back eggs from abroad. My neighbor bought some eggs back from Bali in his hand luggage however he had a very poor hatch rate. I have also seen people on Ebay advertising hatching eggs and stating that they will ship to the UK from the US. However I'm not sure if thats legal, it would be good if it was :)

I agree with delisha...I like the bottom the best, then the next one up leaving the top one... which is a pretty bird but not up to the other two. But I'd tale her off your hands. ..;-)
