Does it bother anyone that bantam wyandottes have cochin tails? In fact, I'm seeing better pictures of cochin tails on wyandottes than on pictures of cochin tails on cochin thread. Yes, my partridge wyandotte bantams have cochin tails--at least bad cochin tails.

Bunny tails have been an issue for some time in Wyandotte bantams. The problem for many years was that judges were placing them ahead of other birds with correct tails. In good birds in some of the varieties you will see good tails on alot of birds. For example, I have seen good tails on Blacks, Whites, Partridges, Columbians, Buffs, SL and GL but there are still alot of birds out there that have the bunny tails and are still being shown and bred from. Its better than it used to be but still needs some work for the future. The tails on the BLR arent bad though, I wouldnt say they are perfect but they are much better than alot of the birds that used to be shown with true bunny tails.
As always with any variety or breed there is room for improvement.
Isnt that why we raise birds? To see how we can put our stamp on the improvement of specific breeds...
At least that was always my goal

I have a question regarding the bantam wyandottes. they seem to have the facial feathers (skin around the eye) like a cornish. is this part of their breed standard- (standard wyandottes don't have this)

There are many breeds and each breed has many different color combinations from laced, penciled partridge etc. There are many different bantams. I don't understand the need to create a bantam of each breed and new breeds and many of this other experimentation. I suppose since it is eay to do with fowl people juet do it because they can. But I still don't get it > Silly of me to wonder about this. But LF Wyandotties are beautiful, calm, productive birds who give us beautiful eggs. Just my questioning mind !
