The Wyandotte Thread

Could someone please explain the show quality standards? Thanks

shew..that is a ton of information and it takes years and years to just know by looking. Your best investment is to purchase the *Standard of Perfection*. It is a gold mine of information in the first pages. The information you have in one book will last your whole life. You can find the link at the bottom of my page for the American Poultry Association to purchase the book.
Finally finished my spread for the ideal Wyandotte male/female head. Is it helpful? Accurate? All input appreciated!

Wow..stunning!

In my defense this was not a PLANNED new color or cross but my original birds came from Foley so type should be pretty good.

My CHOC x SLW CHOCOLATE PULLET

This first pic is her hatch mate.... Looks like the others I thought were maybe choc but the girl on the right is a CHOC no DOUBT.

How exciting..I look forward to pictures of the progress in this chick.

I'm interested in BLR bantams and have noticed their mahogany coloring isn't generally as good as the LF, especially the splash. What are you bantam breeders doing to improve the red color? Foley has an e-book offered on his site to help with breeding the BLRs. I'd buy it in a minute if I was sure it was as applicable to the bantam as the LF, since they are not on equal ground.
Thanks for any insight.
There are a few of us out there who have been breeding BLR Bantams for a few years now. While there are some of the bantams that have been lighter colored, most I have seen now with breeders that are truly working on the breed are getting as dark a red color as the BLR large fowl have. Dont be too surprised if you see them shown a little bit more in the near future and a push to have them accepted into the ABA standard.

I have my first and only two Wyandottes. They came from eggs bought off eBay and are supposed to be blue laced red.

This is Cagney (after a big meal), hopefully a pullet.

And Lacey - what color would you call this?

They are the same age, hatched the first week of August. Compared to the boys in the hatch, Cagney definitely looked girly, but compared to Lacey, her wattles are a tad bigger, so I'm wondering. The obvious boys had much larger combs/wattles.
