The Wyandotte Thread

QUESTION! Okay I thought BLRW's had rose combs, all of mine do and so do my Blue Wyandottes. But I was shopping and I have see a couple ppl selling Blue Wyandottes with straight combs. I didn't think this is right, wouldn't those be orpingtons and not the wyandottes???

Info please
Not Dotties for sure

Wyandottes do hatch with straight combs.... should not be breed. Still pretty birds and that is a DQ but I would think they are still wyandottes with straight combs.

NOT orps.... orps don't have yellow legs or the same type. One defect does not make a bird another breed just not a breeder.

UNLESS it is an Ameraucana.... then it is an EE

okay just absorbing info.. okay so don't breed straight combs...lol mine all have rose combs, but it makes me wonder with the straight comb genes somewhere possibly..so when I breed them this yr I could possibly get a straight comb but it would be no fault of mine correct?

Quote: I don't know why they are there but they are there. I DID get straight combs a good bit with my first breeders from Foley. I am hoping that is going to be much less this round. Rose comb is dominate.... so they can have one copy of each and still look rose comb.

BTW I know BLUE and maybe BLACK have leg color issues so they are a work in progress to get the legs more yellow looking than slate.

I am totally confused... don't you own and breed BLRW?????? YELLOW legs.... All wyandottes have YELLOW legs.

All mine have the yellow legs, but I thought maybe this was a new breeders trait..maybe...some like it like this, some like it like that. I prefer the yellow, but I just looked at an advertisement and hers were blue with straight combs and black legs..advertising as Blue Wyandottes..I thought maybe she was mistaken for orpingtons... But I do not breed the orps, so I'm not sure about any of them

A lot of the ones I see on ebay have at least 1 bird in their pics with a straight comb. There is ANOTHER listing on ebay where I'm pretty sure they use the same bird in 2 pictures where one is listed as blue wyandottes and the other as blue orpingtons. Straight comb is recessive to rose comb.
