DuckRaiser,
Temperament on my strain is calm and inquisitive. They are not ordinarily a lap bird, but with attention during their juvenile stages will follow you like a puppy and will come to a flock call.
As broody hens, they growl and puff up, but only the rare one attempts to peck if you are sliding an hand under her. The hens lay 4-5 eggs a week and begin laying between 6 -7 months.
The cock birds are protective, but human friendly. They are good to their hens, but will pick one hen as a favorite and she may get a little rough looking from his attention. Young cockerels should be separated from pullets at about 16 weeks because they become too eager to offer their sexual prowess on the pullets.
As for meat quality, I find them to be both succulent and tasty.

. Thanks for your help!

DuckRaiser, there are Largefowl Wyandotte in White, Black, Columbian, Buff, Blue and Partridge. I'm working in Blue Columbian and Birchen in both Black and Blue. Some are working on a Chocolate. The project birds are not yet recognized color Varieties by the APA. As for Bantam Wyandotte, there are more recognized color varieties.

Does your mother have Wyandotte? If so, what variety?
