Finally home to take some photos and assess the chickies! Here is my oldest cockerel. Out of the roughly 15 roosters I kept I have only gotten 2 nice colored rooster (him included). Everyone else has great type but crappy color. Their dad throws great pullets but dodgy colored males. What does every one think of them? This guy is maybe 6-7 months old I think. I want to hear all input negative and positive! Always love hearing from the knowledgeable people on here :).

Same boy pictured above.

Some of the babies I kept gathering around for breakfast.

Here is one of the other cockerels I have. As you can see his saddle is very dirty looking. His type is very nice though. I have one boy who has some dirty feathers on his saddle but enough that I think he would be okay to keep. I know he won't be a good show bird but his size, type, and other attributes I very much like. I'll need to find a picture of him to show.

6-7 month old pullet. Looking pretty promising so far I think.

Much younger pullet probably 4-5 months. I really like her lacing and the brightness of her white.

Here is one of my LF partridge wyandotte rooster. I wanted to know what you guys think of him in particular. I got him from someone in Ohio and he was in rough shape when I originally got him. He has finally filled out and grew back missing/icky feathers. I know his comb is pretty big and defined. I assure you it is a rose comb though it may look like a single from the photo. My main concern is he is a bit "lazy" with his tail. When he walks he has nice shape (Like above) but when he relaxes his tail is a little more straight from the back. Am I just being very nit picky about how he holds his tail when he stand?

Here's his more lazy looking tail. Am I being overly picky?

Here's a better look at his comb. As you can see it is huge and stands a bit off his head. Still conforming to the shape of his head though. The hens I have him with have very nice combs so I am not to concerned about it. Much of what I hear is worry about the comb last because that is much more simple to fix than type and other important attributes. Thoughts?

Here is the other cockerel with the nice color. He is from my youngest batch probably around 4 months old. He is looking pretty promising to me. Already showing nice type.

Some different angles of him.

Sized view.

Head view.

Thanks in advance for the thoughts and knowledge!

I have two cockerels that have this discoloration. One is of the type I want to keep and the other is a cull. Can anyone explain the discoloration?
I read about it, I will have to look it up. I think it is pass on from the hen, smutty feathers.

Hello fellow wyandotte people. I know that wyandotte pullets take their sweet time begining to lay but what do yall find is the average age of onset of lay, and do certain color patterns lay sooner than others? I am going to turn over my current laying flock this year and I'm trying to see when I should start my new chicks.

I would say give yourself 6 months at least from the time they are hatched.

I am so glad you asked this question... I almost asked a similar question the other day.

My two SLWs are hatchery... which as I understand are "bred" more for production than conformation... they are 30.5 weeks old as of today. One started laying at 24.5 weeks... I'm still waiting on the other one. (wow, has it really been six weeks already?)

I am starting to wonder if she's a dud.

For us it has been anywhere from 24 weeks to 32 weeks. The BLRW was the last to lay at 32 weeks, our SLWs started around 24-25. Getting that first BLRW egg was like a weight off my shoulders!
