The Wyandotte Thread

Thought I would share a "Happy Ending Story" of one of my wyandottes. I bought some LF Partridge Wyandottes up in OH and one of the 4 had a crossed beak. She was scruffy, pail, severely under weight and in general in very poor condition. My guess is she was in a small pen with a lot of birds and with her deformity she just couldn't get what little food there was from the other birds. Once I got her back she was over joyed to see food and gorged herself being fairly aggressive toward the other birds. I brought her and the rooster back to my house in Virginia for the time being while I was at school. The rooster and her were in a nice spacious pen with two other birds. I came back a few months later and I didn't even recognize her. Her feathers were shiny and beautiful, she was round and plump and she was strutting about as happy as a clam. The only way I could tell it was her was because of her cross beak. Just goes to show you just giving them a good environment, fresh water, food and some tender love and care goes a long way :). P.S. - Don't worry she will never be bred because of her skull deformity. She will forever be a happy hen that gives us eating eggs :) Before AFTER!
Amazing how much better she looks but how does she even eat with that beak.....

It is quite amazing from what that girl recovered from :). I am always happy when I can help an animal in need. I honestly couldn't figure out how she could eat with a beak like that either! When I saw her the first time and her condition I was strongly considering culling her. My mind changed because I thought, "If she was able to live this long who am I to say she can't survive longer." I'm glad I made the decision to keep her. She has a wonderful personality!

I'm so jealous of everyone setting eggs! My wyandottes are still slaking and I'm never home long enough to fire up the incubators

She has been that way for about 3 days and no eggs from either one of them.... she has been rehomed...... with another roo and pullet LOL.

I tossed 2 of the 8 eggs I had in the bator... they started and quit

Got some more pictures of some pullets I am growing out. Definitely excited at how they are looking :) Was only able to stalk 3 of the pullets. The others were running all over the place and I couldn't get any decent pictures
