The Wyandotte Thread

hi,
is anyone breeding Buff Laced Wyandottes,
my friend and I are currently breeding, MF, BLG, SL, GL, BLR, BLS, SP bantam, Blue and BL wyandottes, and haven't seen too many BL Wyandotte breeders,

I got a squat out of my first wyandotte a couple of days ago. I am so excited and happy. I can't wait she is 20 something weeks. How long until you think she will lay?

Well, being from Belgium and talking about colors in English isn't easy...

I believe this is called a blue laced silver. (in Dutch we call it zilver blauwgezoomd)
Can you explain what you mean by "self blue laced" ?

Great question Wyandodo!

Zilver blauwgezoomd was going to be my next guess.

I guess what I'm asking is.... Is this the blue that comes from Black or does it come from the recessive lavender gene? I think the official term for recessive lavender is Self Blue, while the blue that comes from diluted black is called Blue. Put another way, does that color come from lav gene or Bl gene?

Thanks!

Does anyone know if different colors/types of Wyandottes tend to have different personalities? I have a silver-laced (Blanche) who is gorgeous, full of personality, and an incredible layer--but she's a horrible bully. I am thinking about getting a either a gold-laced, blue, or a blue-red laced in my next batch, but I don't want to end up with another bully. I know it depends on the individual chicken, but are there any trends you guys have noticed? Or do Wyandottes just not do well in mixed flocks at all?

I really like the term "zilver blauwgezoomd". And that is a beautiful bird! I am just now starting to learn about the genetics and it's very interesting and a bit complicated.

IDK about mixing with other flocks, but we have some BLRW that are 11 weeks and they are already being really aggressive with each other. I even witnessed a cockerel covering one of the pullets last week. I couldn't believe my eyes. He was holding her down by the back of her head and covering her! They are in a large run, and have plenty of food and water(free choice), so I don't know what could be causing this. Good luck with your silver girl, though.
