The Wyandotte Thread

Pretty birds. Of course these are Wyans but I couldn't help quickly glancing at how similar the color/pattern resembles Russ Orloffs!

Right you are! The jubilee Orpingtons and the speckled Sussex seem to be the most popular breeds in this variety.
But now that you mention it, I might look around for Orloff breeders to find out whether they have valuable information on breeding and selecting.

beautiful birds, as always :)

Four years of making choices is starting to pay off.

What are their eggs like? I have a blue Wyandotte, 8months old, who just started laying two weeks ago, she is laying small, Bantam sized tan eggs, I hope they get bigger.

Although I live outside town limits it is a residential area so I am suppose to only have 2 chickens since the last vote. I bought 3 Wyandottes out of the pullet bin. After a couple of days I started thinking they're all cockerels so I bought a Barnevelder and an Australorp "pullet". Can I have opinions on the sex of the Wyandottes, (not guesses) as I don't want to waste my time raising cockerels. They are 2 months old. There are 2 solve laced and 1 gold.

In my opinion you have 1 glw pullet, one slw pullet, and one question mark. The slw with the darker feathers on the back may have a redder comb and that darker color on the back might be beginning of a saddle. Hard to tell for sure in pics and at 8 weeks though.
