The Wyandotte Thread

I wrote to them via their website last week inquiring about the availability of Partridge Wyandottes this spring. I have received no reply. The website does not appear to have been updated for the 2010 season. Does anyone know if they are still in business?

Yes, they are still in business. Jesse is just a bit slow sometimes in replying.

Question 1 BLRW I'm not sure what was used to create it I know the ones we have in the US were imported.
Question 2 Blue If you would want to have 100 percent blues born you would need black and splash to breed.
Question 3 white birds I assume you ment splash they are not white they have two coppies of blue. Splash bred to black will give you all blue chicks. Splash bred to splash will give you splash. Here is a pic of a splash.

Slw can be used in various projects and also slw.

Hope this helps.

1 THANKS

2 sorry didnt get my point across if i understand the breeding... if you mate blue with blue ... you get black, blue , splash.... so if you want some black and some blue and some splash.... you only need to buy blue...then sooner or later would have all(blue/black/splash)

3 no i meant the true white birds.... none of the breeding i read mentions using white... but they are the most "true" to breed type?
guess whites would be good... if you wanted white chickens! really wanted to know what happens if you mix blue and white or white and splash..... just wondering...

thanks

I have a picture of one of our BLRW/ white wyandotte F2 crosses somewhere....I will see if I can find it. From that cross when breeding the F2 to a pure BLRW about 1 out of 8 chicks looks just like a BLRW. Not sure if that is what you are asking?

I know some people use whites to bring in new blood in SLW lines. As the whites are recessive whites, and originated as SLW sports it works. I'm not too fond of it though as that means you'll end up with a bunch of SLWs carrying recessive white (which means you'll get some white birds when you breed them, and it takes careful breeding to breed the recessive white out of the SLW line again). But of course, if you breed for show and want to improve type, well it can be done.

By way of update, I have heard from Paul's Poultry and they do not have Partridge Wyandottes available this spring.

I guess that means I'm still looking...

Tim

you could visit the wyandotte nationals this year and talk to some breeders there......I know more people out there raise the partridge than Pauls Poultry. You will have better luck finding started birds rather than the chicks because like the good quality SLW the partridge are also hard to raise.
