The Wyandotte Thread

Our broodies "weaned" the chicks at around 6 weeks. Then took about another month to start laying again. When I took 3 day old chicks from one of our broodies, she forgot all about them the next day and rejoined the general population. It still took another four weeks for her eggs to start kicking in, though.

She and her family are too sweet:love

Both my broody hens started laying at the 6 and 7 week mark. (after eggs hatched) Goes by really fast.

Once they start laying again, they seem to be done with mothering. Mine were anyways.

Oh Kathy, I know but the awkward stage is not exacty pretty. I used to work in obstectrics and heard a mother call her baby ugly. She was speaking spanish so maybe she thought that I would not notice. Well I did and laet her know that even thought he was skinny and lanky she had better not say that he was ugly. She took no offence but still kept her stance. LOL I can honestly say that I 've never seen an ugly baby !!
