Sorry I am new to the breed. Was I mistaken? Is this thread only for bred show birds? If so I apoligize and will start up a hatchery wyandotte thread. I am new and still learning about the breed thank you for not being rude..

Hello Everyone!!!
I just wanted to say that I greatly enjoy all the pictures of the Wyandottes!!! To me they're ALL precious!!! When people ask me what breed to get as new chicken owners I enthusiastically tell them about the Wonderful Wyandottes. Silver Laced Wyandottes were the first LF breed I ever owned. Will have to charge up my camera's battery to post new pics soon.

Thank you so much for explaining that! I had announced in chat I was getting a blue wyandotte and a few people there corrected me to say Blue Laced Wyandotte. I was a bit confused at the different names and such, and I do see the darker lacing hence why I thought she was blue laced. Thank you for providing that site! I love learning about this breed and love the different colors and patterns. They are all so beautiful! I am glad to know a bit more about them now

Good Morning Morgan7782!!!!
I'm horrible at sexing chickens, especially Wyandottes(smile). I've only been raising chickens for about a year now....am still learning. I usually end up discovering the who the cockerals are when they start crowing(smile).....but there ARE some chicks that "look" masculine ........that usually turn out being boys.
Great pics...... beautiful Wyandottes!!!! Good Luck choosing which ones to keep!!!! I'd most likely end up keeping all of them.

Thank you! I would LOVE to keep them all, but sadly my coop only houses 4 hens, plus I am actually not legally allowed chickens lol shhh.

They are something aren't they? They have been through a lot too, they witnissed their sisters get eaten by a black bear that broke into the coop. These girls were the sole survivors. They are all VERY friendly, in your lap chickens, and I am hoping all four of them are girls! Two will be going to a friend of mine and I will keep two, provided they are all girls. If not there will be a wyandotte cockerel listed in auctions

I can't wait to integrate my flock, but will be keeping them seperate for a while until I am confident nobody is sick. So far so good though, they GORGED on food and I panicked because I have never experienced a full crop before and felt a big lump on one of the blues chest area. But once I posted on BYC I was convinced it was a full crop, all four had the same thing and I didn't notice it until AFTER they ate sooo much. I am very excited, and will be spending this weekend bonding with these little girls, although they are VERY friendly!

If anybody has any age or gender guesses do let me know

for fun more then seriousness. I won't be calling any of them boys until it's undeniable haha.

It looks like your second little blue may be starting to develop some pretty little waddles...

I currently have 13 Blue Wyandottes, my first batch is approximately 13 weeks old, and the second batch is about 9 weeks old. It appears that they are pretty easy to sex at the 7-8 week point. They roo's generally start to develop a very red, wide comb and waddles and their legs are usually significantly larger. I have one roo that was looking very manly at 3 weeks (he's definitely 'large and in charge'). I'd watch it for another few weeks before you make a call.

Sadly, I too will be getting rid of a few of the boys (3 BLRW, 5 blues and 1 splash blue) if anyone's in FL and interested, let me know.

I was told these chicks were 10 weeks old, but yesterday I was thinking they were maybe closer to 8 weeks. Not sure, I am very new to this breed. Do you have any guess on their age? Thanks again for the information it definately helps. The one with pinkish wattles is my favorite, but she is also the one who I am having trouble with crop wise. (thread in ER section.)
