The Wyandotte Thread

To bring up that discussion again I will not offer my opinion or results at this time but rather would encourage you to seek out the knowledge of a Wyandotte breeder who has been raising exhibition stock for twenty years or more rather than someone who has been in it for five or six years.

Nice dig....

Beautiful wyandottes.....I love the standard buffs. You don't see them too often, but they are great. I have about 1/2 dozen of them.

Ive been raising SQ Wyandottes for 18 years now, do I qualify yet?
If I added up the experience of the men that have mentored me along the way it would only be a couple of centuries worth of experiences.........is that enough?

But hey, its only chickens remember. There are bigger things in the world.....

Mrs. Turbo :

We are getting a pair this weekend from Colby.....we picked them up for her from Duane Urch this past fall. We won't have any chicks this spring because we need to build our flock, but should have some started birds in the fall. these are the only pictures i have of them.

Hi

I will be ready to buy my first hens in March. I want 4 different kinds to add some colour.

Golden laced & silver laced as they are known over here, have really taken my eye & one of each are top of my list.

There are some about but very expensive in UK. Point of lay $40 if you can find them.

Finding 4 different birds of same age at the same time is going to be a nightmare.

Are Wyandotte a special breed in the states ?

Regards Reg

I have been asked a few times about the brooder we use. The pre-made ones are very expensive so this is one a friend of ours made for us.
It is 63 X 37. The chicks have a 12 X 37 living area and there is also about 3 inches of space below the wire for the tray to set in. The trays are from walmart in the car section. They are the oil spill pans or something like that.
The lights are hung on the side with a regular light box. You see them in basements or stroage areas....and the light on top is a brooder light that sits on a hole covered with wire.

It was a good game for my household since my wife is an Aggie as are my brothers and all of my in-laws. The unfortunate part is that I still live in the Austin area and have to listen to non stop UT coverage all the time....whether they win or lose....
