(Don't worry, I do the same thing to my hubby....run out to see my flock, check eggs, hug a few birds, then go in to see my hubby...my 2 girl's do it too, maybe it's a "chick" thing).

Thanks for posting this... ok I've been reading the internet book on wyandotts that wyandotteTX posted for me.... based on that I'm thinking the flatter of the two combs is the straight comb carrier. I've got a few of those in my flock...sigh...

Hi Y'all,

I raise, breed and show WBS Ameraucanas, Barnevelders, Buckeyes, and Welsummers. This year I have decided to replace all the hatchery/feedstore birds I keep for eggs while my others are in the breeding pens with SQ stock. Here are the breeds that I’m looking for now and plan to get:

1) Barred Rocks (BR)
2) Black Jersey Giants (BJG)
3) Buff Brahmas (BB)
4) Black, Blue, and/or Buff Orpingtons (BO)
5) Golden-Laced Wyandottes (GLW)
6) Silver-Laced Wyandottes (SLW)
7) Blue-Laced Red Wyandottes (BLRW)
8) New Hampshire Reds (NHR)
9) Rhode Island Reds (RIR)

I think that’s it but with chickens I just never know. If I see something that catches my eye, I may just have to get some. For example, I recently heard that someone in the USA has some BLR Barnevelders. If I see them, I’ll probably have to get some!

Anyways, I would appreciate hearing from any of you BLRW/GLW/SLW breeders who would sell me some hatching eggs from good SQ stock. Please send me an email as I likely won't see a reply here.

God Bless,

$$, nobody would pay the same for a F1 as they would a bird that is 7th generation and breeding true. An honest person would tell the buyer that he bred ______ into his line ____ generations back. Purebred is an interesting term. All breeds started started as a mix, a purebred should throw offspring that look like their parents without obvious faults from other breeds.

This is true with all animals, I work on rabbit breeds, last was improving the French Angora and now the velveteen lops. We ALWAYS mark them as F1's etc. Even if the animal looks pure, you can still get genetic throwbacks for a few generations. In the rabbit world it is unethical do anything but label your mixes or you would never have any buyers.

I am only doing the wyandottes for fun, but was curious, because I have talk to several who are upset because they thought they were getting wyandottes and when their birds breed they have to cull a lot of single comb birds. So wouldn't that technically be unethical of the seller??? Is there any recourses for the buyers of these animals? Some people have paid a lot for eggs or animals. It makes me nervous being new to this breed to invest to much money into them at this point.

This is just the perspective of someone new to this breed.
