The Wyandotte Thread

Oh, and I also was wondering what you Wyandotte owners think of your roos? Is it a noisier breed in general? I've heard the hens are clucky so was wondering if the roos followed the trend of excessive crowing.

I didn't think to ask that BEFORE I got a roo. He is VERY talkative, but he hasn't crowed much other than first thing in the morning, it is kinda deeper crow. But he constantly is chatting with his girls now.

I have 4 breeds and the Wyandottes don't crow any more or less than any of the others. The one that does crow a lot is the Polish. He crows and when he starts, he crows at least 6 times in a row before stopping. My Cochins crow about 2 seconds longer than my Wyandottes and the Dorkings have a very distinct sound to their crows. But frequency is about the same on all but the Polish.

Afternoon everyone

I am a big Wyandotte fan, though after predations last year I only have one bantam silver laced left

However next week I will be receiving a whole bunch of hatching eggs

silver laced, buff laced (or white laced red I suppose it is really) and blue laced red bantams, and white laced red and blue laced red LF. Then later on I'm hoping to get some lemon cuckoo LF eggs too

So I'll probably be posting lots once the eggs arrive, and (hopefully) when they hatch!

My bantam wyandotte roos liked to hear themselves. They wouldn't SHUT UP. I tell people that if LF wyandotte roos were human, they'd be surfer dudes. They only really crow when the light turns on at 3:00am. The hens like to talk amongst themselves. They gossip more than a sewing circle. Not like the raucous complaining the EEs constantly give me. Now those hens can gripe!

Hey Jerry, good to see you guys yesterday! Sorry I didn't bring any cherries, they were all mushy at the grocer's...
What was the name of the wyandotte genetics book you mentioned? I'd like to read more on the black; and thanks for the heads up on the leg coloring!
