The Wyandotte Thread

Here is a photo of my last two hens I have. They are not perfect by any means but they are a starting point for me to re-start this variety to what they once were for me. They have sound Wyandotte type and still lay well for hens that are 5+ years old. I am crossing them with a GL male and the progeny will be about 50/50 between GL/WLR. I have used this cross before to improve the ground color of the WLR, I am doing it now because I dont have any WLR males left. The males have always looked better than the females when it comes to lacing in this variety. The females have improved over the years but the males have always had a much darker red color. I am just glad I have been able to salvage this line of birds from extinction. They lay better than any Wyandotte bantam variety I have ever raised and fertility and vigor is exceptional, and no I have never had one single comb bird come from them either.
Rudy, I will try and take some pics this weekend of the chicks if I can.

Just hatched some beautiful Blue laced Wyandotte chicks

I've noticed that some are lighter than others and some have more red on their combs, was just wondering is this any indication on sex? I'm dying to know what I've got

Question: Has anyone ordered the Silver Laced and Gold Laced from McMurry and if so, how would you describe their quality?

The catalog from McMurry says that these are nice for exihibition for these types and I was wondering if anyone noticed it in the birds they received from McMurray.

I ordered SLWs from them... they didn't even look like wyandottes and they where flighty and mean. They're tails stuck up straight like a sebright... I wouldn't order from a hatchery if your looking for exhibition quality birds. Just my OP!
