The Wyandotte Thread

I would just show the blues..splash is not an accepted color. Enter the blues in AOV as blue laced red wyandottes.

ok... but i didn't think blue laced reds were an accepted color either...

When andalusian poultry are shown - only the blue is shown. Not the splash variety nor the black. Since blr have the andalusian blue gene - traditionally only the "dark" blue is exhibited, not the splash or the black. Of course, since it's not an APA recognized color, you could buck the trend and bring in your best bird to be shown under AOV.

Here's some of my 2 month old BLRW's from the Foleys

They aren't. Frankly, unless your judge is pretty up on what going on, he might not even know the difference. I saw a non-bearded Americana win best in show at a neighboring county 2 years ago. We've had some real doozies for 4-H judges around here. One would only pick cochins for champions of the show classes. I've seen excellent birds get nothing and some very bad birds win the whole show. Maybe your show has higher standards for who your judges are, but if not, watch what they say. Some of these local judges will get you all mixed up. Anyway, yours could probably just be entered as Blue Laced Red. The difference is really not that big for a 4-H show. The correct title would be splash laced reds, but try not to confuse too many people.

Our county fair doesnt even have a poultry show anymore...although the KY State Fair does put on a nice poultry show, I dont show there since I dont want to stay up there for 4-5 days. They normally hire good judges for that show...

It gets complicated: the new Poultry Supervisor at our county fair is only bringing in APA judges.

ok... this makes sense then... i don't know about the judge....he's supposed to be new to our fair... we will see. I knew this would become a problem.

thanks everyone for your input.

BBK- Yes(though I am by far not an expert), I believe that the chicks in my pics that have wattles are cockerels. So, you may very well have only hens, not sure

Out of 25 chicks, I believe I got about 10-14 hens

So, if you do end up needin' a roo, shoot me a pm

I got BLR hatching eggs from a big breeder of wyandottes (not on this site and I don't believe she hangs out here) and the first chick has hatched with heavy feathering on the legs.

why is it I'm having such a hard time getting just one nice blr

I saw in her recent feedback that she sold mixed eggs (now hatched chicks) to someone else. should I report this to the auction site owner? I did post it in her feedback and filed a dispute with paypal. she does have nice looking gold laced birds but I never was able to get her to post pictures of her blr prior to or since buying these eggs. now I know why.
I won't post her name here, but if you want it, pm me.
