Oh OK... I'm not familiar with the auctions and stuff as I'm not from USA, I kind of think of this site as just a forum

Don't know what one would achieve with the high bidding anyhow...

They get the high bid so that the person actually doesnt end up selling stuff, its a really rude thing to do.

Staff stepping in now. Let's nip the gossip in the bud, please. Discussing members who are no longer with us like this is frowned upon, has already caused the staff some work on this thread, and I daresay, some will get their facts completely skewed so best to avoid the subject on this thread from here on out.

Lets keep the topic on Wyandottes!

Our Buff Wyandotte Bantams layed for a few days and then ....

Plenty of automatic fresh water and excellent feed. But no eggs in a month. Anyone else getting Bantam Wyandotte eggs?

is she molting? Did she get scared??? My hens do that sometimes or it's too dark in the winter time around here.

Or if they get spooked they stop. Or if they get moved into a new place.

Hi Jim
I looked over my LF Buff's yesterday for a while. Looks like I have about 7 nice pullets that I am going to use this year. I have 4 Cockerels that I am going to use but I think two of them stand out in size, color and type above the others and will be the most useful. They are all starting to lay pretty well so looks like I may be getting the incubator fired up pretty soon and start hatching out some more Buffs. As for the bantam wyandottes....not getting too many eggs from them as of yet...they are always sporadic layers at best, in my experience anyway.
On a side note, my father...unbeknownst to me slid a RC Rhode Island Red in the Buff Wyandotte pen last year. Interesting outcome are some really exceptional looking Red Wyandottes. They have some great type like the Buffs, but have that very nice New Hampshire color all over and surprisingly without the black in their tails. Not sure what I am going to do with them, they may just become our laying flock for the year.

Hmmm, Red Wyandotte? Sounds nice. Why not work towards developing this? Or make your father do it since he started it.

Have you ever considered using a Buff Orpington to gain size? Type is not that far off. You would have to cull for skin/shank color. Who did you get your Buffs from? Would love to gets tarted with large fowl Buff Wyandotte sometime. Just can't afford to add anything new at present. Maybe we could swap some eggs later this spring.

Our flocks have a digital timer with lights. Have had since first of November. Buff Orpington Bantams are laying fair. Just nothing else yet.

I do have to admit I was pleasantly surprised with the Reds and how they were almost identical to the Buffs in size and type....easy to tell because they are all still in the same pen. I may set up a pen of the best typed and colored ones to see how they might continue......
My Buffs came from Dave Lefeber a few years ago. They are nice birds and have decent size but are not as big as the Whites and Silver Laced. I am gonna try and see how I can progress with them before I consider moving into the area of crossing with the Orps. Not a bad idea at all though.
We dont have any lights on them, we have always kind of tried to keep it as natural as possible. I should have some eggs this spring, that is one thing I have really liked about the Buffs is that they lay extremely well. Strangely enough my pullets this year are laying bigger eggs than my two old hens layed all last year. Bigger eggs, bigger chicks? maybe...we shall see.

I am getting eggs from a couple of my black pullets. I have 3 silver penciled Rock pullets that are laying regularly and a light Brahma pullet
that lays nearly every day. I should say, that all of my girls are Bantams. I have one Columbian pair & a Barred pair, that I do not think are
laying yet. Not running Roos with anyone right now (save 2 pair of OE, that have permanent spouses-LOL

)!

I got 1 BLR wyandotte egg today. Been a month since I've seen eggs from them. I moved them to a new coop a month ago so I'm thinking that's what has stopped their laying. I'm hoping to turn on the bators soon. Its been since August that I've had chicks and I'm definitely going through chick withdrawals!
