The Wyandotte Thread

LOL, I just imagined a chicken with HUGE eyeballs! Gypsy face is when the comb is blue/black instead of all red. Muscovy Ducks can have gypsy faces too.

OK, thanks.

So all the babies are done hatching now. I had 2 eggs that didn't pip at all so I candled then opened them up... one was a beautiful full term light blue baby and the other was an OE/dotte mix.

There's around 30 in the brooder now, plus 5 GL chicks. I will get some pictures of them tomorrow =)
were the two you opened up alive?

The other posts are spot on. Gypsy face is when the comb and ears stay dark. Crow head is a sleek face. 'dottes need to have a blunt, wide head. I noticed that sl don't have it much on this thread. It's the blr that has the worst problem. Perhaps the cross breeding with Plymouth rocks?

I DON'T have blr anymore. I sold the breeding flock at the beginning of the season. Thanks for all the inquiries though!

We haven't noticed any gypsy faces yet(knock on wood), we got the last babies from that breeder of the Blues when you got the breeders. I really enjoy this color alot-esp the blacks. Give me a nice black anyday!

Took a few pics of my 6 week olds today :) Trying to figure out some of their sexes. I am pretty sure on a few but there are 4 I'm still wavering on. I did a post in the "What breed or sex is my chicken?" forum with the pics, but I'll share a couple here too!

Out of the 10, 2 have a single comb instead of a rose. In this pic I think I have a hen on the left, roo in the middle and I'm not sure of that one with the single comb in the back...any guesses?

GLW pullet and SLW cockerel I think...my favorites of the whole bunch lol If I keep a roo I think it might be him.

Thanks! I think it is probably a roo too now, comparing it to the other ones. The comb looks pretty pink? I think out of my whole group I only have 4 hens. 2 GLW's and 2 SLW's. We'll see for sure in a month or so when they start crowing I guess! I have room for 6-7 in my coop so if I do only have 4 I will be buying more :D Probably older pullets though.
