I have 2 eggs that just started their 3 day wait this morning. I removed them from the turner and raised the humidity. Within a few hours one pipped, but it did it in the middle of the egg. It is now zippiing its way out lengthwise around the egg. The other one pipped a few hours ago. I kept them in a home made turner which ws made out of a wire cloths hanger and the botom of an egg carton. The eggs where turned 3 x a day by the means of the hanger poking through the side of the bator and I would turn them one way so they where practically laying on their side with big end up. When I turned them the other way it was the same just on the other side. Three times, that is once a week I would give them a turn by hand to make sure they wouldn't get stuck or something.

This is the first time I have been able to stay out of the bator during incubation. I rigged some tubing through one of the vent holes to add water so I didn't have to open the bator for that either and now I get cock-eyed zippers. lol

Has anybody had this happen and did I cause it? There isn't anything I can do about it now, I don't think, but for future hatches I need to know if I could have prevented this.

Oh yeah the other egg pipped a few hours ago too. They arne't due until the 30th.

Ok here they are. The one with the brown face is the one that couldn't find its way out. They hatched around 5 am. I helped the silly one out. I think it got lost. All is fine now.

Usually the temp has been too high if they are pipping and zipping this quickly.

I've never heard of a lengthwise zip... would love a pic!

I have a lousy camera but I'll try to get you a pic.

after checking my records the temp started out at 99.7 and stayed near there for about a week then went up to 100.7 and down from there and ingered around 100.3 and 100.4. Is that too high. I know that 99.5 is suppose to be perfect but with this weather the way it is it affects the bators as well. I have a couple more eggs to hatch around mid july them i'm done for the year. (i hope)

I had one that was hatching under a broody. This one pipped, and wound up trying to zip end to end... It wasn't working out, and I wound up helping the little fluffy butt out. He/she is now a happy & healthy little chick

Seeing as how my eggs were under a broody hen, And it happened to me, I don't think it had anything to do with you

I got one, after several tries. They all looked like a white orb except the one I took in a dark room and it was peeping away the whole time. The other egg has progress since I looked last.

My internet is so slow, i'm still waiting for photo bucket.

I had to prop it so it wouldn't roll off the counter. The litle bugger is really going at it in there. And making alot of noise too. With my luck probably a roo. One of those stubborn ones.
