Our chicks are officially outside birds

. The hen house and run are done and they are in. They spent the day in the run and house and will spend the night in the house with a heat lamp (It was 72 degrees when I checked inside the hen house tonight).

For those of you that are familiar with my sick chick, Pip-Squeak, she also went out with the others today. I am going to give her until morning and see how her feet fair the wood shavings. She seemed so happy and peaceful to be back with the others (having been separated from them for the last two weeks.

Thanks for the compliments. The girls seem happy to be out and about.

At 5 weeks old they are not fully feathered...they need 70 - 75 degrees. I would not let them colder than that personally. Make the heat source available to them but you may have to force them back inside if it is too cold.


Water...I change their water or top it off once per day....if it is real dirty, a couple times a day. Thenl I see them drinking in the mud puddles then I wonder why I bother. LOL
