Hi, my family had chickens several years ago. We started with a Silkie for my oldest daughter as a pet. Then added Red Rocks, Buff Orphingtons and Easter Eggers. We fell in love! We lost our chicks about a year in to a raccoon. Shortly after my oldest daughter was diagnosed with a rare pancreatic disease. Lots of details later she underwent a major surgery removing her pancreas, 3 other organs and part of her stomach. She has begged for a duck or a therapy chicken now that she has mostly recovered. She has some physical weakness and is diabetic due to the removal of her pancreas. We can't find the ladies name in Harpersville, Al who we bought the silkie from. We are excited to join this forum and hope to repopulate our chickens soon!

It sounds like your daughter has been through a lot. I can imagine having something to bond with while she heals emotionally and physically would be good for her. There are so many beautiful Silkies. It would be so therapeutic for her to sit and look at all the colors and styles. - and order one she has researched and read about. Instead of going to a hardware store and taking what they have available. There may also be a breeder locally. I had great luck finding chicken breeders on my local facebook page area. We had white Silkies when my children were young, & since we live in an area with red clay and wet rainy springs.. they all ended up with her feathers dyed a nice orange pink. Thank you for sharing your journey. 🐤
