Butchered all 60 of my cornish rock X.
Thanks to the help from BYC all the post I have read, the Whizbang plucker, and most of all my great friends who gave up there Saturday to help.
I had all hens. they were 10 wks old. I had an average of 5.5lbs and one was 7.0.
I had $7.47 per bird. Not counting my labor.
I had very little health problems. I losts about 4
From start to finish. Had ZERO leg problems.
They are just lazy dirty nasty no personality stinky and don't forget the poopenest things I ever saw. But I will do it again. The meat it very good. They look much better than the ones in the store and I feel better knowing were they came from. It was well worth the work.
It's been great fun going old school this year raising birds for food and eggs and all the canning we are doing from the garden.
THANKS again to all the great people on BYC.

congrats I just did my rocks 4 weeks ago. dont think they are that big. I ate the biggest cockeral the same day. Now if my reds will just start laying!

Good for you!!!

I did all cockerals and butched at 7weeks 2 days and they weighed 7.2 lbs avg.

next time I may let them go 8-81/2 weeks. I did them early b/c of how hot it got soon fast.

have a good day

I wish I didn't find the process so awful really. I mean it's not the worst thing, but it really is close. I envy your success at putting up that many chickens. I am trying to bring myself around to doing a few before winter hits strong here.

Congrats! Now... don't accidentally leave the freezer door open overnight!

we have about 300 meat chickens (Dixie Rainbows and CX's) to get into the freezer this year. will butcher them all ourselves. should be a fun time!
