6chickens in St. Charles :

We have a rosecomb hen who doubles as a rooster. she's flown onto the top of our house to crow. She dutifully cares for her hen, the Silkie broody. She also lays VERY HARD SHELLED eggs and goes broody to raise the chicks once the Silkie hen has them mostly brooded and they're ready to hatch. DH says we should rename her Ellen DeGeneres, because she's funny and comical and GAY. She's a pretty hen, too. Our 9 chicks have been raised by these 2 mommies. And the broody Silkie is totally arm candy, a sweet darling. Here's a video made by the boys:

So, yeah, its possible for a hen to act quite roosterly.
