I can't picture birchen in my head, but if I remember correctly, it's a beautiful color. It's always the favorites that go, it seems.
 
hey sooner. sorry about your roo, glad you nailed the little #*&$, and it's good to know you have some of his offspring in the bator.

I would like to know about your pen. I am just a few weeks into the chickens and we have tried to fix so predators cannot get inside. But, I still worry. We have lots of coyotes, possums and raccoons. Was your rooster penned inside a building or in a fenced in lot?
I have the cutest bantam rooster and would hate to loose him and can only imagine how you feel!

My chickens are inside a shed type building coop about 14 x 20 ft. Ten top with wire around the sides. The possum scratched underneath and came in. I guess we are just infested with critters. I am going to set a live bait trap to catch any others that may be lurking with the same idea.
