My sis is still trying to talk our parents into going on vacation with her to a resort down there. Both of them keep telling her “no” ‘cos they’re paranoid about cartels. Which I understand, but also know that most of the crime activity takes place around the borders. Not inland so much, or so I’m told.

The only places that are decently safe are the big tourist destinations such as, Cancun, Cozumel & some of the costal resort towns. They cater to the tourists but you never know when you may get a surprise. The very least you might experience is the street kids will steal your wallet & windshield wipers with you watching. It’s not advisable to drive anywhere at night. When I drove through they had problems with bandits blocking the roads at night then robbing, kidnapping & possibly as much as killing the victims.
I’m certain the crime is much worse now.

We didn't know that section of the river was on the border until the Border Patrol came and told us to get our butts back on the US side before the federales showed up.

As an innocent bystander…I can honestly say that I don’t feel safe traveling to a lot of places right now ‘cos of the way things have been going. It’s like a war zone.
