There is a time and place for shenanigans. (edit: THIS is that time and place)

I know I would. I don't usually buy stuff unless I have a reason (like lots of hard drives. I need more for all of my files).

*walks out with 8 gallons of vanilla ice cream*
So my new HDDs showed up today. Instead of just throwing them in the old box, I decided to toss some slightly-less-old hardware at a new fileserver. :p Building out LVM volumes now and starting to data copy.

Should hold over for a bit. Still adding LV's and creating filesystems so the free number will be closer to a tb when I'm done. Probably going to have to order 2 more 8tb disks and swap out the first pair of 1tb's but it's what I had laying around

What'd you do with Ye Olde Athlon? I think I remember you mentioning your old filesystem had one.

I'm considering getting some refurbished HDDs and running them in RAID on my NAS. Not certain how exactly to go about doing that but I suppose a plan will form. My CPU is pretty bad (Athlon II X2 250) but I've got an i3 HP that's nearly the same but needs a new power supply that could replace it.

that's why he needs lots of hard drives. To make sure nothing gets lost when the old tech pukes.
Yah. That and the NAS also has my collection of software for my ewaste-worthy piles of towers. I have one dead Lenovo I accidentally damaged taking the board out of the case (one scratch on the traces). Might use the case for something though. It's a decent case. Hard drive bays and everything.

It's currently still the live file server until I cut it over. Got a few hours of config tweaks I need to do and then the actual data copy.

Or turn him loose with your card and see if he makes smart choices 🤭
