There is no grit in the sand I got

I checked online and while Amazon has lots of options available for delivery to Canada. CDN shipping costs $15.95 for a 1.5 kg bag and delivery will take over a month!

If you can't find grit quickly at Walmart or a farm/pet supply store, then I would use all purpose sand from Home Depot as a temporary fix while you continue to search or wait for delivery: https://www.homedepot.ca/product/sakrete-multi-purpose-sand-25-kg/1000109251

It's a different brand than Home Depot sells here in NY, but it should have grit-sized stones in it. I use it as a sand base in my coop and notice the chickens consuming the tiny stones, in addition to their poultry grit.

My birds never eat the grit, or oyster shell for that matter, that I supply.

They do however eat limestone gravel, and chert, (flint) from the driveway, and ground, during their free range activities.
