There's a chicken on my roof :-\

Well, Pat spent the night about 20 ft in the air in the magnolia tree. I went out to check on him this morning and he crowed at me--so that mystery is solved.

Not sure what my neighbors are going to say about that. Poor Pat may have sealed his fate. Haven't seen either of the girls today yet . . .

Drat. Coax them gently with all manner of yummo treats till you can get them where you want them (you may need to provide a trail of treats back to the coop but make sure it's not out there at night to entice any preds!). They need to see you as friend since they don't KNOW you as friend yet. It may be quite the time consuming project but it will work.....
Keep us posted.

Go ahead and take some good pictures of her on the roof. At least later you can look at them an laugh about it. So could we here on BYC. Thank goodness this hasn't occurred to my stupid birds - yet.

I use a ladder and a hard metal rake, with the straight head... I get close enough, then push the rake head at their bellies... they instinctively step up onto the rake head... then it's jut managing to not drop them as you climb down the ladder, pick them off the rake, and put them back in the coop. We got 10 of our 11 that way out of trees behind our house last night .. they were too scared of the mink to go back in the coop... he got # 11 AND a mallard duck last night anyway

Am glad you are getting a handle on the situation. I can not see how banties can be kept in a pen without serious cropping of their wing feathers. Seems a run for banties would have to be a covered one, whether an avian net or a roof of sorts. Regards them staying on a roof, not to worry. A hawk will happen along one day and solve that problem for good.
