Hey all,

New member here - I've been doing a lot of research into getting a pet housegoose over the last few months and I've gathered a lot of information on what breeds are best for beginners, which are most docile etc.

I haven't got any geese yet but if I stick around here and learn some more I will be much more prepared come time for new additions to the family and hopefully have a support network so that I can look after my Honkey friends when they arrive.

I hope to get to know you all better very soon :)

Welcome to backyard chickens~!
Before getting a goose I'd do lots of reading first.. And honestly I would never suggest getting just 1 goose. Geese are very social animals and need each other to stay happy. A lone goose is a depressed goose. If I were you i'd got a pair of females, Ganders can be very protective of their mates and I don't think you'd want an aggressive goose in your house..

Thanks very much for the welcome :)

When I said a "A" housegoose, I really meant two, I wouldn't ever dream of depriving it of friends. I've always thought of it as if I were to emigrate to Japan or another country where I didn't speak the language. I would feel all alone and not have anyone to talk to!

Actually, that was going to be one of my queries on the forum, a male and female? Male/Male or Female/Female? I understand geese were one of the first animals studied when investigating pairing in waterfowl due to their well known nature for it but I didn't know if they bonded with the same sex just as well as they would if they were a mating pair?

Thanks.
