Last year I read an article that told us to cover the bulb portion of the thermometer with duct tape. I cannot remember the reasoning. We use a regular old indoor/outdoor thermometer. Does anyone know why we would have to do that???
Thanks so much!

no idea, sorry you don't want it to close to the heat lamp as it might not give a proper reading

Thanks for letting me know that you have never heard of it!!

We have the thermometer just on the edge of the light and keep an eye on theri behavior. A true chicken nut!!

Thanks again!

They do peck at it so maybe it could possibly be broken.

I have a round plastic thermometer and they do go for the red center. We laugh and say it is like the Men In Black where the aliens worship the watch in their locker.

I'm wondering if its to kepp the chickens from pecking the bulb and possibly breaking it ?
