helloe there.
im new to this forum and new to egg hatching. i used to have an avary of noisy little cockatiels but after a few years break i have decided to buy a new hed and get some hatching quail eggs. i thought they would be good for my little girl to learn how to raise and look after animals without having anymore indoors.
i made an invubator out of an old fish tank and the temp is steady and everything is looking goog but i bought a second themomitor to make sure the first one wasnt wrong and now i have a two to three degree differance between them and im worried the 24 eggs that were started off 2 days ago will suffer if im off bytoo much. im keeping it in the middle of the two temps and keepig my fingers crossed.
also dose the temp the eggs are incubated at affect the sex of the chicks as it dose in reptiles?
thanks for any help you can give me.
best wishes, james.

Hi,
I have like 5 thermometers in my bator! Everyone reads different so I take all the measurements and do an average. Some digital and some mercury. Good luck!

agreed. Add all the readings together and divide them by the amount of numbers you just added to find the average. But its normal to have different readings in both.

If you have a medical thermometer put it in there. Or if one of the thermometers you have has a probe, wash it an stick it under your toung.
Not temp has nothing to do with sex in birds.... Boy do we wish it did.....

thanks! i dont feel so paniced now lol. i didnt want my wee girl to have all these eggs and nothing hatch, it would be a bit of a crapper for a 3 year old lol.
