I have been using dimmer controls to adjust the temp in my brooders..I have a couple of friends who use thermostats in thier brooders..One uses wafers and the other uses hot water heater thermostats..Both seem to work very well for them..
Any of you folks use thermostats in your brooders? Im getting ready to finish another brooder and am thinking of adding a thermostat..Two lights for heat..One stays on constantly(40watt) and one that is wires thru the thermostat (100watt)..Sized to hold about 150 quail..What do you think?

I don't have one... went to the co-op, and they sold me a candy therometer.! at the co-op! can you believe it!!! I just watch my peeps close. when they huddle together, I lower the light. When they go to the oppisite end of the brooder, away from the light, I raise it up. So Far, So Good!

You could always use one, but I'd bet 99% of those who sucessfully brood chicks dont use dimmers or thermostats.

Most hang a light, and let the chicks move around until they find a spot they like

With 150 quail, I'd just hang 2 lights, each about 1/3 the distance from the ends, and make sure they have enough room to move in and out of the "comfort zone"
