A friend of mine gave me these two birds. I've had them for a while now, and the only thing that's changed about them is their size. I was pretty sure I had them both figured as girls, but I went back to the coop yesterday to find the black one holding onto the back of another pullets head in true rooster fashion. Both of them are pretty low on the pecking order, so it surprised me to see it acting in so dominant. I'm assuming they're both EEs. The black one has very dark green legs and dark skin. Anyway, here they are- please tell me they're girls! I was really hoping for some pretty, colored eggs from them!

The black one is a definate roo. =( And I think the tan one is a pullet! =) Good luck!

How old are they? If near POL (15+ weeks), they both look like girls to me. (if a lot younger, then just the second one :P).

I had a production red that would mount the other ladies - she's 2 years old and definitely a girl. :P

How old? They both look like pullets to me. I don't see any pointy saddle or hackle feathers nor are they getting long sickle feathers. The black looks like a POL Sex Link. The other looks like an EE or EE cross.

I think they are both hens... and they look like mixed breeds. The black one looks partly "Black Orpington"

They should both lay brown eggs.

Both hens. There are no pointy saddle feathers on either.

Only the second one is an Easter Egger. No idea about the first one, but looks sort of like a Marans hen in coloring-still, could be any mix, I guess.

x2.

I also have a bossy hen who will grab other, low-on-the-totem-pole hens by the back of the neck, similar to what a rooster would do.

Knowing the approximate age of your birds would indeed help. I don't see any stringy hackle or saddle feathers on either bird but if they are young they wouldn't necessarily have them yet. At this point both look like pullets to me.

Both hens. First one does look black copper colored but with green legs and dark skin she's just a mixed breed. I don't see any indications of easter egger background.
The second hen is a classic easter egger.

First is a black copper marans pullet (dark brown eggs)
Second looks like a Blue wheaten Ameraucana. (blue eggs)

Do you know where your friend got them from?
