These are not Rhode Island Reds Are They?

These are actually my neighbors birds im not sure where they got them but I had a rir before and she was very dark. They are 3 years old and not one is laying right now. Lol

It seems to get a good looking RIR you need to research the breeders till you find what you are looking for
and with mail order anything it is a gamble so I would suggest the fair's or poultry exhibits to be a good
place to find a fine bird ..... It is kind of funny back in the 1960's it seemed the chick's I could buy at the feed
stores were a far superior RIR then the three I bought last spring and even though they lay an egg a day
each are not the great reddish but more of a brown color and nowhere near as magnificent looking ......

I mostly have wyandottes. Lol as it gets cold here single combs tend to get frost bitten. My speckled sussex has not comb from the frostbite. I bought wyandottes years ago that where twice the size of the ones now.....it seems they are decreasing in size. :/

I understand that as I was given some chickens several years
ago the Russian Orloff as it had small comb and a thick neck
for cold weather the person who gave them to me was thinking
the hot weather here would not be good for them and got
something else and I just hatched out 26 but have 24 now
after one week they are so small and I get to start over again
but I did get some good money from a buyer in Bakersfield
for the adults who were well over five yeas old and still laying
healthy egg's ...... Yes every one should make sure the chickens
they purchase will do well where they live ........
