Make sure the holes in the chicken wire are smaller than the chick. I made a brooder out of a tote like yours and mine figured out that trick too so on went the lid which I covered in chicken wire, my birds are 3 weeks old today and a few days ago one of them started sqwuaking like crazy so I went to check on them and one of my Tetra browns had got up on the feeder and was stuck in the chicken wire because she fit through the holes! One wing outside the brooder, one wing in just hanging there flapping away! I moved the feeder back into a corner and placed a piece of plastic that I cut from the lid on the tote to cover the holes above the feeder/waterer and haven't had a problem since.

This is a pic of my brooder set up, this was taken about a week after i got the chicks, they are way bigger now but still fit in the holes.
