They are ALL GONE!

Two dogs together could definitely do this to your flock. In a really short time.

Do you have any idea who might own them? It would be good to get the word out that if they appear again, you have loaded guns ready. I always try to give the owner a chance to do the right thing.

It would have killed me to see him back chewing on my favorite girl.

I completely empathize with the desire to kill it then and there. Again, I am so sorry.

Sounds like you do not know for sure who killed your chickens though. You have bear tracks for sure and the dog comes along later with one in its mouth? Either animal is likely to not leave blood but leave lots of feathers. I have lived in bear country before. I still strongly suggest to get ahold of your Game Dept. and Animal control. Whether the bear was there for the birds alive or dead he was still there. And is likely to come by again. Hope you find some answers and I am sorry you even have to deal with this.

The lady with 4 dogs and 4 city chickens.

Just an FYI, I had a Chocolaye lab kill 15+ chickens and 20+ pheasants in less than 20 minutes...

At least you pretty much know that it was the dogs, good, b/c now you know how to fight it. Here, if a dog comes on your property and kills your livestock, you can shoot to kill and no questions asked. Everyone knows it, it's the law, and that's that. Although I don't know if I could kill a dog, or anything else; two dogs were after our flock last year. Because our chickens were free range, the dogs were unable to catch theml; and I don't think they were trying that hard. They pulled one hen's tail out. I came home in the middle of it and saw red. I have never experienced rage like that; I jumped in the car and chased the dogs across the hayfield. I don't know what I would've done if I'd actually caught up to them; I'm glad I didn't. Neither dog ever came back, and I never identified where they came from, I know they weren't our neighbor's dogs. But I called the dog warden and they told me that in Ohio anyway you must have your own dogs currently licensed if you want to press charges against another owner. Just so you know. And you can recover the cost of the birds, but that's about it. If the dogs come back and you can throw fireworks even, lots of dogs are terrified of those and they may not come back.

I am so so sorry.

Find the predator and shoot it indeed and then shoot it again for me!

I would be willing to bet after looking at all those pics... mama bear and a youngster. Mama bears will remove fur and feathers to feed a cub. sadly, a bear can get it into just about anything. That is my only fear because that is the only thing that could breach Eggtopia.

to you. I'm so sorry! You should come to the swap in Dunnellon on the 16th. I'm sure being around all the other chicken lovers will help!

This is so very sad! I can well appreciate your sorrow. I worry about my hens the way I did when my kids were teens......
I'm so sorry for your loss!!

Glad you found out it was the dogs, I was sure by the way there was no blood and all feathers, thats dogs or bird of prey, not BEARS they would leave blood or at least prints in the kill area.

I have seen to many dog kills, plus they just kill for the fun. Darn people who let their dogs roam.......
