They came! 51 new little ones

Well, they made it, my long awaited little ones. 51 (hopefully)

little girl chicks.

I thought I was supposed to get them today, but I called the hatchery and they said that they shipped today.

Then this afternoon, I got a call from the US Mail sort center, telling me they had a lot of birds for me to pick up if I wanted too. Otherwise, they would send them on to my post office tomorrow. I ran out and got them of course. Pretty good for getting them in less than 12 hours, and I live in Colorado and they came from Iowa I think it is. Murry McMurry.

Anyway, got them home and all tucked in. They started porking out right off. No problem getting them to eat and drink. They are running around the brooder like Superman flapping their wings and acting grown up.

Their brooder coop is located next to an apple tree, and there are many rotten apples on the ground outside and fruit flies fly into the coop when I open the door to check on them. They tear after those little flies like they know what they are doing.

Totally hysterical.

Congratulations! How exciting!!! I love chicks. They are so hilarious!


And... I just had a frightening thought.... what happens if they didn't realize they had ALREADY shipped them out, and they shipped out another box today? Then you could end up with... 102 babies?? LOL! Yeah, it could happen. Just ask 4H Kids and Mom!

We have 11 Barr Rocks, 11 Red Stars, 11 Black Astrolorps, 16 EE ers, and 1 Buff Orpington. Oh, and one mystery chick. I know, the 1 lonely Buff seems strange, but that's all I could get, and I have a lady who wants a buff so bad, she'll pay $50 for it. Of course, I won't charge that. I guess a dog got her buff and she's misses it terribly. I had to call the hatchery a couple of times to finally get just that one. So I hope it makes it ok. So far all is well in the brooder. I'll get the pictures a little later today.
