I got home from work to find my wife had cleaned out the refrigerator, I was pleasantly surprised until I found she also put half a quart of chocolate milk with it. How long till I start seeing any affects and how bad will it be? I looked in the bowl and they cleaned it all up. 6 full grown hens.

Sorry to hear about your chickens. Is there real chocolate in the chocolate milk? Made with actual cocoa from cocoa beans? If not, they may be okay or at least at a lower risk for anything happening. One article I read online said within, but not longer than 24 hrs you will see signs of poisoning if there will be any. This article says within about 6-12 hours you would begin to see signs. I hope they’re okay.

Oh boy. Chocolate milk must have been a pretty fun treat for your hens. Most likely they'll have digestion issues (diarrhea). When my dog accidently got into chocolate years ago, he was sick immediately. I'm not sure if it will pass through birds systems as fast. Hopefully there wasn't enough chocolate to poison them but the milk by itself will also cause diarrhea.

Edited to add: make sure they have access to a bunch of fresh water. They'll probably be dehydrated if they have runny poop.

They should be good. Grown hens would need a lot of chocolate to get poisoned and I doubt the milk had that concentration of it. Expect lots of diarrhea, but they should be good.

Thanks for your reply, it’s Promise Land brand chocolate milk. Idk how much cocoa is in it. I will keep an eye on em.

Thanks for your reply. I hope diarrhea is the worst of it. Yes they have plenty of fresh water every day.

Thank you for your reply. Hope they pull through. I will be checking on em, don’t think there’s anything I can do though.
