I found out today that they eat slugs and tried to take it away from each other. that has got to be one of the coolest surprise bonuses :-)
Is there any cautions I should know about this?

Chickens are omnivorous. They'll eat any plant or animal that they take a liking to. That may be seeds, greenery, a worm, slug, cricket, another chicken or parts of a deer carcass.

The problem with things like slugs, worms, crickets, flies, etc. is that they are secondary hosts of parasitic worms. Not a big problem if the chickens are healthy and rotating pasture helps.
