They have arrived!

that company name bothers me...ripoff!!! lol!
Also be prepared for some extra roosters...hatcheries sometimes add them as the 'packing peanuts.'
Good luck and congrats with the new chicks!! :woot

Lol yea the name is too similar. I did call them and asked what the 2 extras were and they said that they should both be pullets. But we will see, I know it’s never 100%. If it’s a roo I’ll have to give it away or cull it.

I have had mixed success with hatchery orders, and TSC. Got 6 from TSC earlier this spring and ended up with 4 males, My Pet Chicken gave me totally different breed of chicken than I ordered and 1 male. McMurry out of IA has been the best out of 3...all were pullets and they got the breeds right. So if I ever order from a hatchery again, McMurry has my vote.

I've had pretty good luck so far with MPC...ordered 6, 4 are still alive (one died within 24 hours of arrival and one died around 8 weeks old (had crossbeak and couldn't eat :( )
They all look to be females so far. We got a refund on the dead one (it was expensive!)

Email said they’d arrive tomorrow, got the call this morning from the post office saying they were here. All 10 appear happy and healthy. Within minutes of being in the brooder they were all drinking and they have all found the food and have eaten quite a bit. The order was for a total of 8; 2 Plymouth barred rock, 2 speckled Sussex, 2 RIR, and 2 golden comets. I received 10, they added a 3rd Plymouth barred rock and a 3rd RIR. They are chirping up a storm and love playing on the MHP. I’ve checked for pasty but twice and so far it’s all good. I will be putting some ACV in their water tonight once I buy some. Here is a pic:

So far 2 have been named, the largest one has been named Fluff and for whatever reason one of the golden comets has the name Pete. Keep in mind they should all be female but that’s just what my 22yr old sister had pop in her brain... maybe she senses it’s a roo lol. I will try to take individual pictures soon.

Nice, make sure to watch those extra birds though, hatcheries love to hand out free roosters without asking...

Yes these are my first chickens.

They told me the free extras were female but we will see, I see no reason for them to lie about it. They don't know I'm not zoned for roosters and I know theres a chance they sexed them incorrectly.

Most other site had minimum orders of 10 or more or they didn't have breeds that I wanted. I am only allowed to have 6, I ordered 8, and received 10. My coop is sized for exactly 8 but they will only be in the coop at night and there will be 2 4' roost bars so idk if the additional 2 will be an issue or not.

Chicks are not under the MHP tonight. I cleaned the brooder, replaced half the pine shaving today. I put the MHP in same spot and same height as it was before. Tonight the are huddled in the corner of the box instead of under the MHP. It is on same heat setting which is medium. Are they telling me it’s time to turn the heat to low? They were hatched on the 1st of this month.

I didn’t realize how quickly chicks grow. At 8 days old they have grown to 3-4 times the size at which they arrived. I still haven’t posted pics of them, I need to do that soon.
