THEY HAVE SHIPPED!

Sadly I wasn't able to get home this weekend, but my mom was there. There are six hatched :D she left 2 with Buffy and put 4 in the brooder: here are the 4 in the brooder.

should we let Buffy keep them all or put them in the brooder, as this is the 1st time one of our Brodie's hatched chicks, thanks :)

I would say let her keep them all. As long as she is being a good chicken mama. But then again I have never had a chicken hatch chicks so hopefully someone with some more experience in the matter will chime in. They are so cute.

Wanted to post an update in my little girls. 4 weeks now. I moved them out of the brooder and I to a kennel in the coop with the big girls and boys. They are in their "ugly phase" and are almost completely feathered out. They are all 6 doing great! Their personalities are really coming out. My favorite girl is actually my Australorp. Which is surprising, because I really thought I would like my Salmon Favorelles the best because they are beautiful! They are a close second, but up until this week they were crazy feisty like my Ameracaunas were. Haha :D my GLW seems to have hardly any personality yet. Hope she livens up. My red stars are pretty calm and quiet and sweet. Loving them all!

So I have 3 more babies coming on the 19th! Darn chicken math. I can't stop! A Danish Brown Leghorn, a Silver laced Wyandotte, and a Speckled Russian Orloff. :) can't wait! I'll post pics of the new babies when I get them.
Here is a picture if my girls last week.

They're getting so big. Can't wait to see the new additions when you get them. Unfortunately I'm stuck waiting until next year before I can get anymore. I don't know if my SLW is going to stay. In the brooder she was kind of mean, would peck at our fingers and stuff and she seems to be meaner to the other girls. My daughter absolutely loves the chickens, so the first time it does anything aggressive to her its going in freezer camp. My little girls are still in the dog crate in the chicken coop. I figure I'm going to leave them in there for another week or two and then remove the crate.

That's what I do with mine. I have to keep an eye on my older hens. They pick in the smaller ones- and they are buffs! Their gentleness and calmness goes away when the know the younger ones get my attention. Silly birds.

My EE's haven't bothered the small ones one bit. I think one of them only pecked at one of the smaller ones once and when I promptly shooed her away for it they haven't done anything of the sort since then, at least not while I'm out there. The whole dog pen method in the coop I think is the easiest way to do it. I've heard of people just letting them get interactions during the day using the play pen method, but I think by giving them a safe haven in the coop for a couple of weeks makes the transition a bit better. I would remove the dog crate sooner, but my littles are just not big enough for my liking yet. I figure another week or two and if it all seems like its going well then I will take the dog crate out.

Which hatchery did your SLW come from? I got some from Ideal and they were meaner than mean to the other chickens.

I got it from Meyer. She definitely seems to be the most aggressive, but lately when I have gone up to check on them she's not too bad. It could also be that these one werent handled as much as my other ones, but still I don't want a chicken I'm going to have to worry about pecking me.

Mine was never aggressive to people, just the other chickens. She was pretty but mean.

Well as long as this one isn't too mean it will stay. I can understand a little aggressiveness towards other chickens, the pecking order and such, but if she ends up being a royal meanie as soon as she is big enough its freezer camp for that one. When she was in the brooder and I stuck my hand in to pick up one of the chicks she would be the first one over pecking at my fingers. Now that they are outside and have some more room she isn't as aggressive, but she's in a dog crate in the chicken coop right now with the other 5 I got from Meyer. I'm more worried about how aggressive she might be towards me and my daughter when the dog crate is no longer there. My EEs have gotten a tad bit skittish of us, but always come towards us expecting treats, they just dont like to be pet or held.
