THEY HAVE SHIPPED!

Hey everyone,

So I figure that an update (with pics!) is overdue now. They are getting BIG!! I had been stalling on the updates because some of them were losing their chick tail feathers that grew in the very beginning and getting real, juvenile tail feathers. They were looking so pathetic that I thought I would wait a week or two before posting more pictures.

They are getting past the "awkward" stage now!

This is Nellie, an Easter Egger, when she was a chick, and now:

It's hard to get a picture of her that has her head in it, she's always too busy pecking at some invisible something on the ground.

This is our other Easter Egger, Autumn, as a chick and now:

One of our Barred Rocks:

And the Buff Orps:

The second picture was just today, the first one from a couple weeks ago. I don't think I shared it in this thread though.

Thank you for the pictures Xiao. It's kind of sad how big they get and how fast they grow. I will have to snap some pictures of my littlest ones today to post later for all of you. I tried letting one out of the dog cage the other day to see how it would do with the other chickens, just to see if I could eliminate the dog cage yet, needless to say the poor girl was chased by one of the bigger girls. The dog cage is staying for another week or too and then unfortunately they are all going to be too big to fit in there so it will have to come out and what happens will just have to happen.

Here is the update.
400
and
400
some are friendlier than others. The Plymouth Rock is friendly and doesn't mind being held. :) I'm gunna have to upgrade them to a bigger home soon.

Backyardflock, they are growing up so quickly but the one that stands out to me is the little white silkie! If I were ever to get a pet chicken that isn't a "producer" so to speak, I would choose either a white silkie or a good quality buff laced polish.

My barred rocks are super-duper friendly too. I think it's a breed characteristic, almost everyone who has them says the same thing. A bit like Buff Orpingtons, but Barred Rocks mature faster and are better foragers (at least mine are better foragers...

I love all the pictures and updates. I need to get some pictures of mine soon. I unfortunately cannot tell the difference between my australorp and jersey giant at this point. They are both the same size and look so much alike that I have no idea which is which. My light brahma also has a lot of dark patches across it's whole body, not sure if it's supposed to be like that for how young it is but even if it's not colored like it should be its okay with me. I got it for it's feathered feet anyways. I would go snap some pictures now, but unfortunately it's pouring here. Had to throw some scratch down for the girls to keep them busy while they are locked inside the coop, their run unfortunately does not have a roof yet. I can't wait to see how my little ones are once they are freed from the dog cage. My wonderful experience the other day, I was up putting feed in the cage for the little ones, didn't let the big ones out before I decided to do that and one flew over my head out the door. I spent a good half an hour trying to get this bird back into the run and every time I stopped following it for a moment it would look in the run at it's sisters and you could just tell that she wanted to be in there. Ah the joys of having chickens! Got my exercise that day for sure.

how cute!!! even when they are pains they are too cute!!!! i took all of my little nuggets out of their cage to do a complete clean out and it was mayhem! Poop everywhere and they were jumping on and getting into everything!!! but they cant help it! curious babies )

yes they are.. now that I've had chickens I don't think I will ever go without having them. They are too funny to watch and provide entertainment. Not to mention give you breakfast, and depending on where you stand food for when they are done laying also. When my littles where in the house they used to find ways out of the brooder that even I couldnt figure out. What kind of chickens do you have stasichick?

one barred rock, one buff orpington and one white cochin! love them!!! they are too funny! this morning i went over to the cage, saw the shavings in their water opened it up to clean it out and there was Mo the fiesty barred rock just sitting on top of the cage saying goodmorning and looking for a quick snuggle!!! i love that they all have personalities and little quirks about them )
