THEY HAVE SHIPPED!

Backyardflock, I don't have any updated pictures yet but I will take some tomorrow to post for you. My little brahma is the only one that doesn't have any tail feathers. I am not just counting down the weeks until I can put them with the bigger girls. Now I have another question for everyone, what brand of feed do you use? Have you tried any others? If so what one do you like best? The only reason I am asking is because I was giving them purina, then when I went to my local Agway I got the agway brand because they were out of the 50lb bags of purina. To me it seems like the chicks poop way more eating the agway then they did on the purina. Not only that but the agway feed is the same price as the purina. If anyone has a brand they recommend that is cheapish for a 50lb bag I would love to know.

I've been using the Purina, but we ferment the feed and that makes the chickens eat less. Their poops are also solid, none of my chicks had pasty butt. They do seem to have grown into the cecal poops though.

Anyway, as I said, we use Purina, but if you ferment your feed the chicks eat less anyway, which makes the price of the feed less. This is our first flock so I haven't had a chance to try other brands yet.

Xiao, I tried fermenting the agway feed and everything I read said that it was supposed to absorb the water that it was in. this stuff absorbed some but but it just doesn't seem right. I think its really cheaply made as it is when I touch the crumbles to hold some in my hands for the chicks it seems like a lot of them turn into food dust. I dont think Im going to use this brand again. After this bag though I'm going to switch to a flock feed considering I have girls that are different ages.

I use purina medicated feed for the chicks and purina layer feed for the older chickens :). I love the pics SMonroe! I've been handling the chicks every day so when they grow they'll be super friendly :)

Yeah I try to do that with mine too. Of course even with my big girls when I pick them up now they make so much noise you would think I am killing them. Backyardflock how do you plan on feeding them when you put them together? Or are they not going to be in the same coop?

I cant wait until I can get my little girls out with the bigger ones. I love having them but I don't like the chicken smell that wafts up into my bedroom.

Thats cool. I think silkies are absolutely adorable. But until I get more space I'm not getting chickens just to keep as pets. Oh well.
