They have started hatching! PICS!

That must be a tough shell! With three toes, it should be able to push out now, I'd think, if it isn't completely exhausted.

Got up this morning and the poor little guy was still in his shell!

So, I tilted the lid just a bit and pulled him out of the bator. He was stuck to the egg in two small places - one, his right side of the face and two, his poofy behind. I pulled the shell off and washed him in warm water then put him back in the bator. Here he is:

And one blue orp hatched! I can't get a good pic yet because he is hiding. I think it might be blue because it has yellow wing tips and yellow underneath......

I am expecting Speckled Hen's blue orp eggs next month and after seeing the blue orp chick...

Jay, does that black chick have a spot on top of its head about the size of a dime? If so, it's a BR; if not, it looks like a Black Orp. The Blue Orp looks like a splash from that picture. Later on, take an updated pic so we can see if you have a very light blue or a splash. The splashes are really almost white/cream colored as new hatchlings.

No, there is not white spot on his head. I only has one orp hatch. I took out the egg shells and wrote down the names before throwing them away. So far the following have hatched:

Silver - 2
Mandy - 1
Velvet - 1

JG's
Henrietta - 2
Belle - 2

1 of Charlotte's is rocking now but hasn't pipped.

None of them have a white spot the size of a dime (or even a white spot) on them....

After studying the chicks I can now tell for sure what they are. The one I thought was the blue orp is actually a Jersey Giant. The one I questioned if it was a BR is actually the orpington.

There is now a chick with a white spot on his head! Don't know where it came from but it is there now. He has little white tips on his wings. I remember Cyn writing something about how to tell a BR roo from hen..... but I can't remember how. I sure want him to be a roo. I'll try to post a pic in the what am I category....
