So my 17 week old pullets, keep flying out of the run. At night they fly up in trees and on the barn roof so we can't get them to go in the coop for night time. They have been with the older hens a roo since they were 13 weeks. There is a free ranging rooster and turkey and 5 hens. Do they like that rooster better? Also do you know when they will start laying? The breeeds are 8 wyondottes and 2 ISAs.

I think the general rule is around 20 weeks for laying. Give or take a couple depending on breed and environment. The only way to keep them in is to put up a net in my opinion. I have one and if there’s a gap they will find it. Silly chickens...

Were they sleeping in the coop before just recently?
How big is your coop, in feet by feet?
Dimensions and pics would help here.

1 chicken cock, 1 turkey(male of female) and 5 chicken hens?
How old are these birds, and why are they free range(24/7 or....?)?

If there staying on the property at night they knows it's there home. If you want them to go into there coop lure them to the coop with treats, do that for a week or 2 and they'll get the hint. Warm corn or mealworms worked for me.

I will get pics later. The turkey is a female Turkey. They free range all day and go in a seperate coop at night and to lay eggs. All the chickens are 2 years old. The turkey is 1 and a half. The hens in the coop are between 1-6 years. The rooster in the coop is 2 years old. I don't know the dimensions. There are currently about 20 birds in the coop. Including 12 guinea hens in the coop. The rooster in the coop is an easter egger. The one outside free ranging is a polish rooster. The hens in the coop are, jersey giant, Brahmas, easter eggers, wyondottes, one RIR, and a buff orp. The hens outside are 3 orp easter egger mixes, 1 buckeye, and a jersey giant.

They are free ranging because i am working on a coop for them, because the roosters fight to much.
